Nissan QR20DE engine is a successor of famous SR20DE. First it was installed on Nissan X-Trail. This engine acquired new aluminium cylinder block, new crankshaft with 80.3 mm piston stroke, and modified pistons with dome 89 mm in diameter. QR20DE connecting rods are 153 mm long.
Cylinder head is also new. It has two camshafts and continuously variable valve timing CVTC. There are no hydraulic lifters on QR20DE, therefore every 60,000 miles of mileage (90,000 km) you need regulating valve clearance. Usually nobody does it in the old cars, waiting for engine rattle to appear, and only then valve clearance is adjusted.
This engine is also equipped with ignition system with individual ignition coils, electronic throttle body and two balancer shafts for the engine to work smoother and even.
Also QG20DD was produced as the version with direct injection system.
Besides QR20, Nissan QR series also include larger 2.5 liter QR25DE engine.
In 2005 new MR20DE appeared, which naturally replaced QR20DE.

QR20DE engine number location
The engine number is on the tablet on the right side of cylinder block.
To acquire some additional power, you need to purchase Balancer shaft removal kit, and also to install header, cat-back performance exhaust system and to adjust ECU. It will add about 20 HP. The power may increase to 200 horsepower, if you install aggressive JWT S1 264/244 deg. cams and valve springs.
It would be quite expensive to make naturally aspirated QR20DE still more powerful, therefore it is better whether to stop at this or sell your car and purchase Nissan 370Z or Mitsubishi Evolution.
It is not advisable to buy QR25DE turbo kit and install it on QR20DE. Though you would gain much power, the cost is extremely high. It is quite irrational wasting.
