After M62B35 the new engine N62B36 appeared, which replaced its forerunner. It was developed on the basis of the elder engine N62B44. In its cylinder block a crankshaft with stroke 81.3 mm was installed. The diameter of the cylinders reduced to 84 mm. The rods were also changed.
The cylinder head is similar to the one of the N62B44, but the diameter of its valves has been reduced: the inlet are 32 mm, the outlet are 29 mm. The characteristics of the stock camshafts of the N62B36: duration 282/254 deg, lift 0.3-9.85/9.7 mm.
For the engine N62B36 the variable valve lift system Valvetronic was applied. Another innovation was Double-VANOS – the variable valve timing system on the inlet and exhaust valves.
The engine control unit is Bosch DME ME 9.2.
This type of engine was used for the models BMW 35i.
In 2005 BMW company introduced the substitute for N62B36. That was the updated N62B40 with 4-liter capacity.

The N62B36 Chip-tuning
The easiest way to increase the power of the engine N62B36 is chip-tuning. We just need to purchase the cat-back performance exhaust system, cold air intake and to tune ECU more aggressively. Such improvements let increasing the power to 300 HP, and the engine seems being somewhat more powerful. If for you it is still not enough, then better sell your 3.6-liter car and buy some more powerful BMW.
